Less Concrete – More Blooming Meadows
Under the Iron Wolf Bridge in Vilnius, Lithuania, a meadow has come to life – my very first mural invites everyone to imagine a city where nature and people live in harmony.
We often talk about protecting forests, but long-lived natural meadows are just as important. They provide refuge for countless insect species and are hotspots of biodiversity. In Europe, 40% of open-field bird species have already disappeared due to the loss of natural habitats. As meadows vanish, entire ecosystems and their inhabitants disappear with them.
The artwork Vilnius Meadows was inspired by the blooming meadows along the nearby Neris River – a quiet natural oasis just steps from the city rush. The artwork calls everyone to value meadows as much as forests. That’s why in the mural, cyclists ride beneath giant flowers. For drivers speeding down Goštauto Street, the piece suggests hopping on a bike and enjoying the blooming Neris riverbanks just around the corner.
Even the smallest patches of blooming meadows can shift how we connect with our surroundings – they have the power to shape a city where life is good for everyone.
Huge thank you to Vilnius City Municipality for making this possible and to the best team for helping me paint these giant walls.
